And if the answer is "an on-chain oracle that aggregates verified signals from the physical world," then the promise is real, and it is worth building, even if the journey is long.
We didn't need Fanuc to teach us that the world is opaque. We needed it to remind us that opacity has a price. That price is now being paid by the shareholders whose dreams of an automation recovery deflated in one afternoon, and by the traders who mistook a forecasting miss for a structural decline. The blockchain industry's future does not depend on whether robots keep selling. It depends on whether we can make the opaque economy transparent enough that one company's profit miss no longer has the power to convulse the entire world's capital allocation in a single morning. That is a hard project. But as I wrote in The Geometry of Trust, the hardest curves are the ones worth mapping, because they are the ones that hide the most fertile valleys. The automation torus still turns. The question is whether we will have the instruments to see it accurately as it does.
Fanuc's crash is a flash of light on the curve. I intend to stare at it carefully, keep my portfolio flexible, and keep building the transparent infrastructure that will, someday, make such flash crashes less damaging by making the underlying reality less hidden. That is the only answer an evangelist can give: not a retreat from decentralization, but a more rigorous pursuit of the transparency that decentralization was always meant to provide. The robots will keep coming. The question is whether the systems that finance and own them will finally be worthy of the future they are being used to build.
