They echo a truth the blockchain space has been slow to internalize: AI isn't just a tool for code generation or trading bots. It's a fundamental repricing of what makes a protocol defensible.
Check the code, not the hype. But the code is only the surface. The real moat in the age of commoditized AI models is data. The raw, proprietary, off-chain and on-chain data that feeds models. The network effects that generate that data. The same logic that is reshaping enterprise software valuations is now rippling into crypto. Every DeFi protocol, every Layer 2, every oracle network is being re-evaluated through a new lens: can an AI-native competitor replicate this service with cheaper models and better data?

Check the code, not the hype. In practice, that means auditing not just the smart contract logic but the data pipeline. How is data collected? Who owns it? Can it be replicated? The Lazard survey tells us that institutional investors are already moving capital out of software assets that lack data moats. The same capital will flow into crypto protocols that can demonstrate a defensible data advantage.
